Nick Cannon Says He Has "Lupus-Like" Disease

When Mariah Carey recently made the shocking revelation that her husband, Nick Cannon, was suffering from "mild kidney failure," their fans were shocked. At 31, Nick appeared to be the picture of health and was keeping busy with multiple jobs but it all changed very suddenly in December 2011. Since then, Nick has been in and out of the hospital with blood clots, heart and kidney problems.

The father of two just revealed even more news about his health - news that suggests he may face ongoing medical treatment. Details inside

Nick just told People magazine that he has been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease:
"The blood clot thing was probably the scariest because ... I've known people who have passed away from that," he told PEOPLE at New York's Teqa Restaurant and Tequila Bar, where he was deejaying an event Wednesday night.
"I thought I was getting better," said Cannon, 31, "and then that happened, so that kind of came out of nowhere."
He said doctors have told him his kidney condition is "something I'm going to be living with all my life." "I'm just trying to make sure I put my health first," he says, adding that he tries to get six hours of sleep a night and has been resting and relaxing at home. He also revealed that the kidney disease was a result of an "autoimmune disease that [doctors] found in my system," and his blood clots were directly connected to his kidney infection. "It's a lot of stuff," said Cannon, "but it's all in order now."
"They kind of say [my] autoimmune [disease] is – like a lupus type of thing, but no one else in my family has it. I feel blessed to be alive. If it wasn't discovered, I don't know [what would have happened]."
In an effort to control his symptoms, Nick also quit his daily morning radio show last week. There has been some talk that the producers of America's Got Talent were planning to move the show to New York to accommodate the new judge, Howard Stern, and if that happens, Nick would also benefit. It would eliminate all the traveling he's had to do to host the show.

All the best to the Cannons.
